Banning games, and parental responsibility.

Lately there has been quite a fight in California dealing with video game content and its Material within. If you haven't heard this please read here before continuing on ward.
To you gamers and non gamers alike this law can change how we view alot of things. If this law gets passed we limit our creative freedom for video game materials and how and what we make them as. So then I ask you whats next? Your movies, books, music and or your clothing? Not to mention that we have a rating system thanks to the ESRB. (if you don't know what that is click here) Its very easy to understand and they put the offensive material on the box. As a Wal-Mart employee I know for a fact that we cannot sell games to minors. That doesn't mean it doesn't happen but I know that the register prompts you to ask for an ID or some proof that the buyer is at least 17 for purchase of a M rated game. Which usually is answered by a parent or guardian. This brings me to my main point. Why are you allowing your child to buy these games if you do not approve of the material? We have all these great resources for you to compare what is right and wrong for you child. You also give money to your child depending on their age group. So if you don't like what they bring home stop giving them money and letting them loose. As parents its your responsibility to know what your children are doing. If you have a problem with the games they choose go with them to the retailer in which they buy video games, Explain why a certain game type is not for them, or simply do your job as a parent. I have a small daughter at the age of 21 months and I will be using the ESRB for her to decide if she is mature enough to handle certain content. I also get a chance to the more violent games out there and can tell whats for her and whats not for her. We as a nation are becoming the laziest parents in history. We should take responsibility for things our child does. If we blame it on the next person all the time we have things like Columbine happen. Were everyone was so confused at what happened and blamed everyone else when there was an easier solution and no-one really bothered to ask why the parents weren't aware of their child's hobbies, problems, etc. I don't know why you have to punish the retailers and game publishers because you can't do your job as a parent.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://modernreverence.blogspot.com/2010/09/freedom-of-speech-banning-games-and.html' title='Freedom of speech? AM I getting that old that Impersonation is no longer the biggest form of flattery? So I got to thinking about racism in general. The following is a list of uninhibited thoughts about the topic and means no disrespect to any race.

1.)African Americans seriosuly need to stop calling themselves the N Word if they dont expect anyone else to call them it. I dont call African Americans that at all basically out of principle. Not every black person is from Nigeria. Too say so would just be plain ignorance. Not every white person is racist. I don't care if you are from India, Timbuktu, Canada, The United States, or Taiwan. If I don't like I just don't like you. It has nothing to do with your skin color.
2.) White people seriously need to focus on themselves more than other people so much. As a white person I see it everyday. We have some of the worst traits in man sometimes. We also make our own image very poor of what we believe and who are. I do this myself and try to catch myself all the time. I hate that some white people say "we dont trust (insert race here)!" I deeply am concerned for these people specifically on the basis that we all bleed we all have hair and we all defecate.
3.) Asians need to let loose a bit on the whole "Not pure Japanese" thing. This doesn't happen often but there are a few out there. Who really dislike anything from the "West" because of World War 2. Not all of our families were here during World War 2. I am very aware that hundreds of thousands in civilians were raped and killed in Japan during that time. OR the fighting that continues in North and South Korea. I am not involved in any of that nor will I ever be. Please dont blame me for that. No amount of blame can fix that.
4.) To anyone that calls Native Americans "Indians." Indians are from India not North America. Christopher Columbus started this when he mistakenly landed here and thought he was in India or so I understand.
5.) to Every race out there. We all bleed red and its blue before it hits the air. We all defecate and it stinks no matter who you are. It doesn't matter what country you are from. You are a human being. You are all members of humanity. Until you can see through the color of someones skin, You might not see it for yourself. Unless we care for one another black, white, yellow, red, pink blue, or purple we are all human and we should act like it and not a bunch of apes.

To Kim

You are not God.
don't judge me
You didn't create Raegen.
don't discipline her
You are nothing more than human.
its not your place
Your lack of respect,
brings you disgrace
You won't understand this,
because your dense
You will learn,
when you grow up
That the world turns fast,
it might make you throw up.

Time to relinquish those insults of your brother.
It saddens me that you have to stop to a high school level and not realize that I'm your flesh and blood and truthfully one of your few true friends in this world. I'm not in a pessimistic mood today! (HOORAY) At any rate, Merry Christmas. I believe a lot of people know the reason for the season. But in case youve forgotten that amongst your gift giving, greed, and excessive loathing of the travel and family gathering. The reason is God. Yes, The man who signs his name with a capitol G. Its easy to forget that simple prospect when faced with the stress of the holidays. Unfortunately Christmas and Easter have become quite synonymous with each other in the past few years. So remember to pull out that Bible while sitting next to the fire during Christmas eve afterfeast, and really thank Christ for his sacrifice. Cause really that's why we celebrate, this holiday. For those who celebrate Hanukkah enjoy your holiday as well. Fortunately for you its not as crazy as Christmas. :P
So Today I will leave you with this. A video and a plea...Don't let your child turn out like this

Good customer Service?

As the Christmas shopping season hits in the current month, I hope you all are getting your fill of good bargains and great customer service. If you happen to live in the Sheridan county area though fat chance of that this year. It seems our local "beloved cash cow" Wal-Mart is starting the lay off season at such a wonderful time. nothing like a big fat lay off in your stocking. So not only do our associates of store 1508 have to worry about the stress of Christmas season. but we also have to worry about whether or not we'll have a job tomorrow. As much as that worries me, For some reason I seem to be wondering more so about what the customer is going to think when, the short days before and after Christmas, Wal-Mart is so understaffed they cannot get the customers checked out to buy their products and the people leave. Since when had the customer not always been first? Simply I would believe pleasing the customer would be the number one priority of Wal-Mart simply because they are what make Wal-Mart money in the first place. Have we become so used to bad service that we will wait in lines for an hour before we see the actual cashier? Have we always been used to not having merchandise stocked on the shelf? Or are we just o.k. with the mediocre.

Soldier Thanking.

I was sitting there wondering on veterans day...Why don't people actually thank soldiers when tehy see them? Have we began to blame them for what the current wars are and aren't? Typically let me say thank you to any soldiers or wives of them actually reading this in the first place. I'm proud that you guys know how to get to work and do your job. I really think that people need to thank the soldiers more with the simple fact that if the soldiers do there job then we don't have to do that job ourselves. Even if you don't agree with the wars or the politics is it really the guy who follows orders fault? Granted you don't see the president on the front line doing what soldiers do, but he is in charge and the soldiers have to follow the commander and chief. So give a soldier a breaka nd say thank you.(even if you don't agree with why we are there.)

The After cake

4:23 in the morning and there seems to be some leftover birthday cake calling my name in the fridge. Now the question is how long do most people keep around cake from birthdays and such we ate our wedding cake a week later instead of saving it mainly due to the fact that it was baked amazingly and I couldn't resist.

Once upon a year.

My daughters first birthday has dropped a rock of depression upon me. It had just occurred to me as to how fast life can pass you by and how precious every moment is. I still remember bringin her home for the first time. I had that typical new father glaze engulfing my eyes and the shock what the last few days had been like and all the emotions that were currently in my head. I realized then that what was my life had forever changed and I could no longer be the young buck who I once was. In retrospect now I remember a feeling of an ability to sit in the rocking chair with her forever and the fear of the other drivers on the road as we were getting her to her first home. With new memories to be had for another year, We seem to forget how fast our children grow mentally and physically. I'm very thankful that my child had survived a year at all as some don't. So as we set up the party decorations and wait on the family guests, I will remember how much a year is as a milestone. And be thankful for what I have.
